The state Tyrol

Tyrol is a state in the west of Austria. With the total area of 12.640,17 square kilometers and a population of 751.140 people, Tyrol is the third largest state of Austria.

Ski Arlberg is the largest interconnected skiing area in Austria and belongs to the five largest in the world.

Swarovski Crystal Worlds

Suspension bridge Highline179

Burgenwelt Ehrenberg, Klause 1, A-6600 Reutte, Tyrol.Tel: 0043 5672 62007.
Opening hours: daily from 8:00 o’clock in the morning until 10:00 o’clock at night.

Highline179 is the longest suspension pedestrian bridge in Tibet style, which was included in the Guinness Book of Records. The bridge is 114 meters high and 406 meters long.

Children 4 – 14 years of age 5,00 Euro.
Groups of 20 people and more: Adults 7,00 Euro.

Tickets for adults are available directly at the bridge via ticket machines. Discounted tickets can be purchased in the ticket center.

Bergisel Ski Jump

The Bergisel ski jumping hill is one of the boldest structures ever created. The architect Zaha Hadid combined in her design a jumping sports facility with a restaurant, event location, and panoramic terrace.

Opening hours winter: November 2018 - May 2019. Wednesday – Monday: 10.00 a.m. - 05.00 p.m.

20 - 24 February FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Seefeld with ski jumping. Admission only by ticket operators. The restaurant SKY is closed during this time.

Opening hours summer: June - October 2018. Daily: 09.00 a.m. - 06.00 p.m. 25. - 26.05.2018 closed due to the Kaiserjägerschießen (Kaiserjäger Shooting)

Tyrolean Bee World

Opening hours: from May 1 to October 26, 2018, there is a guided tour every hour.

Here you will find:

• the museum with the Heinrich Hüttner beekeeping, which is located in a 400-year old farmhouse. Here you can explore the secrets of a bee colony, a naturopathy archive, a giant show beehive, and a beehive in a sequoia.

• since 2018, a naturopaths practice with specialists offering apitherapy.

Wining and dining

After an eventful day, you definitely need something tasty to eat. Tyrol is known for its delicious cuisine and fresh products of the alpine farming. True Tyrolean specialties probably taste the most authentic in a rustic alpine hut. But of course, you can also enjoy them in a beautiful mountain restaurant or in a typical Tyrolean guesthouse.

Traditional Tyrolean dishes are:

Tiroler Speckknödel / bacon dumplings - the dumplings are served in the soup, sometimes also with sauerkraut (pickled cabbage) or salad.

Tiroler Gröstl - boiled potatoes, sliced beef or pork, and minced onion, roasted in a pan. Often it is served with a fried egg.

Kaspressknödel / cheese dumplings - dumplings with grey or mountain cheese flattened and fried in butter, served in a soup or with salad.

Tiroler Marend (Brettljause) - cheese, bacon, Kaminwurzen (smoked dry sausages), cold roast pork, Schmaltz (clarified chicken or goose fat), horseradish, and farmhouse bread.

Kasspatzln - geschmolzene, würzige Käse, mit Röstzwiebeln garniert.

Kasspatzln / “little cheese sparrows” - melted, spiced cheese, served with fried onions.

Kiachl - fried yeast dough pastry, which is eaten with sauerkraut or with powdered sugar and cranberry jam.

Schlutzkrapfen - dough crescents, filled with spiced potatoes and served with melted butter and parsley.

Moosbeernocken - dough dumplings with blueberries, sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Strauben / “ruffles” - sweet pastries, baked in boiling oil and sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Apfelradln / “apple wheels” – crusted apple slices, served with powdered sugar.

A study by the University of Graz has shown that bathing for 20 minutes in thermal water helps to reduce stress. Thermal water gives you not only new energy but also has healing effects.

Hot and healing springs in Tyrol

Aqua Dome

The Aqua Dome is situated in Längenfeld in the Ötztal and is the only true thermal bath. Its area is almost 50.000 square kilometers. The pool is filled with mineral water from 40-degree warm sodium chloride sulfate sulphur springs.

Aigner Badl

The Aigner Bad is a historic Tyrolean rural spa, which people have been using since 1772, and it is listed as a protected monument. The spas are open from the beginning of June to mid-September. Here people bathe in Lärchenbadewannen (special wooden baths) with tops. 38-degree warm water from healing springs helps with joint pain, rheumatism, sciatica and stimulates wound healing.

Train

You can reach Tyrol using highways as well as federal highways, and mountain passes. In order for you to use the highway, you have to buy and stick a freeway permit to the windshield (available in automobile associations, gas stations, and on the border checkpoints).

By Plane

There are daily flights from Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin-Tegel, Frankfurt, and Vienna to Innsbruck.
