The Leipzig Panometer
Truly a large-scale and breathtaking exhibition, Panometer Leipzig is a fascinating circular panorama museum established by the artist Yadegar Asisi. This unique project found its place within the former gasometer, which was restored and then opened in 2003, and from that very moment, the number of people wishing to visit the extraordinary panorama exhibition is constantly increasing.
The exhibitions made by Asisi evoke a feeling of “being there”.
If you are planning your trip to Leipzig, you should definitely visit the Panometer. It will be interesting for both adults and children, and a large sprctrum of positive vivid emotions is guaranteed. The subject of the exhibitions is changing periodically, but Yadegar Asisi always knows how to amaze the audience. Besides a visual panorama, the exhibitions are accompanied by music, lighting, and sound effects in order to impress the spectators.
Development of the Panorama
The technology of the panoramic exhibitions’ creation is striking. The pictures have a length of 105 meters and a height of about 30 meters. A great number of different photos, pictures, drawings are combined into a single huge image with the help of digital technologies. The picture is printed onto the separate textile strips, which then are combined into the general circular image. To view the panorama, the spectators are invited to the special raised platform in the center of the display.
Today at the Panometer Leipzig - exhibition program 2020-2021
The current exhibition is called CAROLAS GARTEN – Return to Paradise, and is dedicated to the fascinating world of a home garden. The new panorama was opened in the Asisi Panometer Leipzig at the end of January 2020 and will be in place until summer 2021. The exhibition focuses on the microcosm that exists in the gardens and lets visitors shrink to the size of pollen. The main idea is to show how much of everyday life actually remains hidden to the human eye, but is still of great importance for our ecosystem.
