La plage d'Étretat, Normandy, France
La plage d'Étretat is located on the beautiful Côte d'Albâtre, Normandy, France. A pebble beach surrounded by majestic 70-m cliffs amazes with its pristine, almost wild nature.
The beach is located just behind the city promenade, between the rocks of Aval and Amont. Its coastline with cool turquoise waters and sandy bottom attracts very few people to swim. There are no umbrellas or beach bars here. In the coastal waters, you can practice sailing, paddle surfing, and scuba diving. You can book a coastline tour on one of the boats or catamarans moored off the coast. There are several restaurants and cafés on the waterfront with outdoor terraces where you can admire sea views.
However, most visitors come here to enjoy the beauty of the incredible coastal chalk cliffs and views that open up here. These cliffs with natural arches have been a constant source of inspiration for many artists. To the left and right of the beach, there is the starting point of the ascent to the rocks, where the viewing platforms are located. Here, you will be able to see the Amont cliff and the chapel of Notre Dame de la Garde on one side, and the Aval cliff, the Manneporte – a huge rock with a natural arch, as well as a rocky peak L'Aiguille also called the «Needle», on the other side. And, of course, the sea views from here are just breathtaking! The ascent to the rocks, which have fascinated visitors for centuries, is not too difficult, as there are steps here.
Étretat is a small beautiful town and one of the most charming places in France, walking along its beach and cliffs with unique landscapes, accompanied by the cry of seagulls, will surely be an unforgettable experience.
