Parlamentsgebäude Budapest

The Parliament

The beautiful Neo-Gothic building, built in 1896, with its gables and towers serves as a symbol of the city. Its magnificent unusual architecture and classicist rooms attract around 700,000 visitors per year. The word "magnificent" was not accidentally used here: during construction, 40 kg of gold were processed and the building is rich in details both inside and out.

The St. Stephen’s Basilica

St. Stephen’s Basilica

Even as an atheist, it would be a great mistake not to visit the basilica. The church is a result of intransigence and much effort, as during the construction several difficulties arose and one thought, such a beauty could never be completed. But thanks to the people of that time we now have the opportunity to admire the magnificent decor of the basilica.

The Heroes’ Square

This landmark belongs to the UNESCO cultural heritage. The Heroes’ Square was erected as a memorial for the 1000th anniversary of the Magyar settlement of land. Visitors can see sculptures of the most important people who defended Hungary’s borders with their lives. The figures are a part of 2 semicircular colonnades. In the middle of the square is the Millennium Monument: a 36-meter-high column with a 5-meter-high statue of the archangel Gabriel on top of it and 7 sculptures of chieftains of the Magyars at the foot of the column.

One of the most popular places in Budapest not only among tourists but also among residents. The Romans were the first who recognized the valuable properties of thermal springs and because they settled in this region Budapest has about 11 thermal baths which are supposed to cure different health problems.

Perhaps the most beautiful buildings belong to the Széchenyi thermal bath and the Gellért thermal bath.

A romantic walk through medieval ruins, a rose garden, green meadows – and all of that in the city center. After exhausting guided tours, you will find an ideal place to rest here. The island park is perfect for a picnic with your family or friends. There is an open-air theater and an open-air cinema for culture lovers.

Phoro by Michelle Rousell

The island is also interesting for children: 2 musical fountains, a small zoo, swimming pools and playgrounds will bring them a lot of joy.

• This place is especially popular on the weekend. If you are free for a picnic only on the weekend, come in the morning.

Please note: Cars are not allowed on the island. There is a parking lot not far away (525 HUF per hour). You can rent bicycles, electric cars or roller blades on site.

Numerous events are held on the island. Enjoy an opera or an orchestral concert. The information about the new seasonal program 2020 will be updated on the website soon: http://eng.szabadter.hu/

Dainties of Budapest

Budapester Leckereien

Palatschinke

“Palatschinke” are thin pancakes. They are usually served with different fillings (nuts, dry fruit, Nutella, jam, meat, vegetables).

Lángos

Generally speaking, it is deep-fried dough eaten as a snack. There are a lot of variations of toppings: lecsó, sour cream and grated cheese, ham, sausages, Liptauer, garlic.

Accommodation

There are plenty of places to stay in Budapest in all price categories.

A room in a 3-star hotel costs an average of EUR 112.00. The prices per night in somewhat simpler hotels start at EUR 50. Overnight stay in a luxury hotel costs about EUR 140.00

The Danube River divides the metropolis into two parts: Buda and Pest. Which district is the best for overnight stays? Here are the most famous sights in Buda: the Royal Palace, the Fishermen's Bastion, and most of the famous thermal baths. This part of the city is much quieter than the other one.

The Pest offers a wide array of restaurants, the young scene, and many shops, as well as many sights and landmarks, such as The Parliament, the Central Market Hall, and the Hero's Square. There's a lot more life here.

The historic Jewish Quarter is popular with young people as you can find most of Budapest's bars, clubs, and ruin bars here.

If you are looking for a very unusual place to stay, choose a hotel boat. There are two hotel boats in Budapest: Fortuna Boat Hotel and Aquamarina Hotel.

HotelFriend offers a lot of attractive deals in Budapest: you get both comfortable accommodation and a range of additional services, all included within the price. Travel with HotelFriend and you will save time and money!
